Panel event: Challenging United Nations
economic sanctions before domestic courts,

The Arab Legal Forum held a panel event on "Challenging United Nations economic sanctions before domestic courts" at the London office of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. The event discussed the landmark decision of the Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights in Al Dulimi and Montana Inc. v. Switzerland .
Judge Kimberly Prost (former UN Ombudsperson for Security Council Al Qaeda Sanctions, Chef du Cabinet at the International Criminal Court), Maya Lester QC (Brick Court Chambers) and Antonios Tzanakapoulos (St. Anne's College, University of Oxford) gave opening talks followed by an extensive Q & A session with the audience and a drinks reception. Omar Naqib (Arab Legal Forum, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer) chaired the panel.

The Arab Legal Forum, with the support of the National Security Law Research & Policy Initiative at King's College London, held a panel event on "The international law applicable to combatting and supporting non-state actors in the Arab World" at King's College London.
Ben Emmerson QC (UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights and Counter-Terrorism) and Avner Gidron (Senior Policy Adviser, Amnesty International) gave the opening talks, which were followed by a lively audience discussion and a networking reception. A recording of the event will be uploaded in due course.

Book Launch by Amel Makhlouf
19 November 2015, Sorbonne University, Paris
On 19 November 2015, Manal Tabbara, on behalf of ALF Committee, attended the reception organised in celebration of the publication of Amel Makhlouf’s: L’émergence d’un droit international de la finance islamique : Origines, formation et intégration en droit français at the Collège des Bernardins, Paris.
The Director of the Chair for Ethics and Financial Norms, Professor François Ameli of the Sorbonne University, Paris, and Nicholas HD Foster of SOAS, University of London, were the keynote speakers. Nicholas HD Foster praised Amel's efforts and achievement and said that "the publication of Amel’s book is a notable event because it makes a significant contribution towards establishing the foundations of the Law of Islamic Finance as a specialist sub-field of Islamic finance, and therefore it makes a significant contribution towards the making of further progress in the study and practice of Islamic finance generally".
